Big Ice

It consists of an expedition to the center of the Perito Moreno Glacier, an experience you cannot miss; it is only reserved for adventurers in good shape.

The whole excursion takes place between glacier formations, cracks and ice caves.

The trip begins at El Calafate, early morning, with the transfer to “Bajo de las Sombras” Bay Harbor. There, at 9 o’clock, you will board a ship called “Tehuelche” and navigate across the Rico arm towards the west coast, where you will disembark ten minutes later. At this point, you will put crampons on your boots, as the mountain guides will take you on an approximation adventure, getting closer and closer to the Glacier.

This trek covers the South Moraine of the Perito Moreno Glacier. An hour later, you will reach a spectacular viewpoint, from where you will gain access to the ice.

Once at the glacier, already with the crampons on your boots, the world takes a different perspective: blue lagoons, deep cracks, enormous drains, magic caves and the unique sensation of feeling in the middle of the glacier.

The expert guides will always go with you, along the three-hour exploration of all the corners of the most special glacier in the world. They will explain everything about the ice and its surroundings.

At noon, there will be a half-hour picnic on this “white blanket”.
Shortly afterwards, the return starts, again along the Moraine for about an hour, up to the ship. Quietness and emotion will reign, as this trekking is one of the most spectacular trekkings in the world.
You will board at about 3 pm to return.

After getting back to the harbor, you will be able to continue the excursion up to the footbridges, in front of the glacier.

This is a full-day excursion.

Due to the physical demands and the difficulty of the grounds, this excursion is only suitable for people between ages 18 and 45, of acceptable physical condition, due to the fact that the time spent walking on ice and stony grounds amounts to 7 hours.
